Empire Of The Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne
Empire Of The Summer Moon is a must-read for anyone passionate about Texas history. As a Texan who cherishes our state's rich past, I believe this book and its captivating narrative should be revered alongside the Alamo and other iconic tales of our land.
It was amazing. Being from Texas, I could relate to many of the locations that were talked about. But Texas is such a big place that there were many places I had to look up to see where they were.
The book's portrayal of the Comanche people's way of life, their nomadic existence across Texas and the plains, and their resourcefulness in hunting buffalo and living off the land is truly admirable.
Until we showed up and ruined their way of life.
This book is excellent and heartbreaking at the same time.
One thing I took from this book is that thousands of people who lived in this country long before we did were forced to change. They didn’t have a choice; it was either change or be hunted down and killed. And I see a lot of that today in our world. They want us to all change and adapt to their new world lifestyle where we would be happy just to keep it the same.
I see why the Indians fought to keep their lifestyle. If you don’t fight to keep what you want then you will lose it.
